Student Best Oral Presentation and Best Paper Awards

Beginning with the 2009 meeting, the Florida State Horticultural Society (FSHS) will have separate competitions for student oral presentations and student papers. Awards for the Best Oral Presentation Competition will be presented during the Annual Business Meeting at the 2010 FSHS annual meeting.  The Student Best Paper Competition awards will be announced at the 2011 FSHS annual meeting.  Awardees will receive cash prizes and will be recognized in the Proceedings of the Florida State Horticultural Society.  Students may participate in either or both competitions.

 Best Oral Presentation Competition

In 2010, all students who submitted abstracts for the graduate student competition are automatically enrolled in the Best Oral Presentation Competition.  Participants will be judged on importance to Florida horticulture, scientific merit, organization, awareness of current literature, fluency, clarity of presentation, effective use of figures and tables, report of conclusions, completeness, timing, and response to questions.

 Best Paper Competition

To participate in the Best Paper Competition, students must submit a manuscript (use author guidelines for the Proceedings of the FSHS) via e-mail with the subject “Student Best Paper Award” to fshsproc@ashs.org no later than 30 days after the last day of the meeting. Student papers will be published in the Proceedings of the FSHS.   Entries will be judged on relevance to Florida horticulture, scientific merit, experimental design rigor, literature review, completeness, and clarity.
